Planting The Tree Correctly:
A very important step, or possibly the most important step in ensuring tree health is the actual planting of the tree. If the tree isn’t planted correctly, this will almost always ensure that you will end up with an unhealthy tree eventually. You always want to plant a species that will do well in the environment that you are living in.
Always remember to water your trees just like you do any other plant. Lawn sprinklers shouldn’t be the only source of water for your trees. Younger trees need regular watering, but even adult trees do as well if there is a drought. You want allow for enough water to saturate 2-3 feet down into the root system for mature trees.
In most cases, mature trees do not require fertilizer. On occasion, newer trees may need the assistance until they are established well enough on their own. You only want to fertilize if the trees growth is poor, or if there are signs and symptoms of decay. I would recommend researching or hiring a professional if you see poor tree health.
Pruning is one of the ways to keep your tree active and healthy. It enhances the shape and can encourage strong tree growth. You want to remove anything that is dead or decaying as this can effect the overall structure of the tree. We strongly encourage you to reach out to a professional of you are pruning to encourage healthier growth.
